As the weather in the UAE cools down, another iconic venue in the UAE has been refurbished and reopened.
As the name already gave away, the Al Ain Oasis is a large expanse of palm orchards with shaded walkways where you can explore the city’s humble beginnings as an agricultural hub. Nestled conspicuously right in the midst of Al Ain’s city centre, the UNESCO World Heritage site is up to 147,000 date palms with around a 100 different varieties – the easiest way to spot it is through the tall sand-colored walls that separate it from the city’s souk and buildings.
My favorite place to explore in the Oasis were the ‘aflaj’ – a traditional irrigation system that brings underground water to the surface. The peaceful and calm atmosphere were a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city too, as I felt like I was transported to another world.
The Oasis is an hour-and-a-half drive away from Dubai, it comes with ample underground parking which is free of charge. As the cooler season approaches, the Al Ain Oasis is a must-visit destination for any UAE traveler!
